Who we are

About Green Lion

Built on a simple conviction: the products people put on and in their bodies deserve the same rigor as anything else in science.

The Name

Where the Name Comes From

In alchemical tradition, the Green Lion represents raw, unrefined matter — potent, unstable, not yet useful. It's the substance right before transformation: chaotic until someone with real method gets their hands on it.

That's the work. An idea, an ingredient, a rough concept for a brand — we take the raw material and apply the science, the testing, and the craft it takes to turn it into something that actually ships.

The alchemists had a name for what came after, too: the Philosopher's Stone. Not a rock — a symbol for matter perfected, base material transformed into something of real value. That's the target of every formulation we touch. Not metaphorically only. Practically: an ingredient list, verified and stable, that actually does what it claims to do.

"We're not a lab you rent by the hour. We're the people you call when the formula actually has to work."

— Green Lion Formulations & Consulting
Our Disciplines

Built at the Intersection

Green Lion sits at the intersection of chemistry, regulatory science, and product strategy — so clients get first concept through commercial launch without the handoff gaps that usually happen when three different vendors are involved.

Formulation and consulting aren't two services we bundle together — they're bonded, the way two atoms share electrons to become a molecule neither could be alone. Pull the strategy out of a formulation project and what's left isn't a smaller version of the work. It isn't the work at all.

Chemistry First

Every decision starts at the molecular level, whether the ingredient came from a plant extract or a synthesis lab. We don't guess and check — we characterize, test, and verify before a formula goes anywhere near a client's name.

Regulatory Fluency

We read the frameworks the way regulators do — so you find out where the line is before a warning letter tells you.

Strategic Clarity

Science that serves a business, not the other way around. Every formulation choice gets weighed against positioning, timeline, and what you're actually trying to build.

How We Work

Engagements

We work with a small number of clients at a time — by design. Every project receives focused attention, direct scientific involvement, and honest counsel throughout.

01

Project-Based

A defined scope and a defined deliverable — formula development, a regulatory review, scale-up support. In and done.

02

Retainer Advisory

Standing access to senior scientific and regulatory judgment, for when a decision can't wait on a new proposal.

03

Full Pipeline

Concept to shelf, one team the whole way — formulation, regulatory, scale-up, and QA — so nothing gets lost in a handoff.

Before You Reach Out

Questions We Get Early

Are you a manufacturer, or a consultant?

Consultant. We design, test, and validate the formula, and we manage the relationship with contract manufacturers on your behalf — we don't run our own production facility. If you don't have a manufacturer yet, sourcing and qualifying one is part of the work.

Who owns the formula when the work is done?

Some things get written into the engagement agreement, not the website. Ownership terms are set per project — ask us directly and we'll walk through it before anything starts.

Do you work with first-time or early-stage founders?

Some of our most interesting work starts before a single ingredient has been sourced. We also work with existing brands refining a formula that's already on shelf. Stage matters less than whether the problem is real.

I don't know the technical side yet. Is that a problem?

No. That's what the first conversation is for. You don't need to arrive speaking the language — just a clear sense of what you're trying to build.

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on the formulation's complexity and the regulatory pathway — a reformulation moves faster than a novel delivery system with a new classification. You'll get a real timeline once we understand the scope, not a generic estimate up front.

Do you work with brands outside the U.S.?

Our core regulatory expertise is U.S. FDA and MoCRA compliance, but international market regulatory mapping is part of what we offer for brands expanding beyond the U.S.
